EUGA Junior Internship Program
Overview
A EUGA Junior Internship Award for a European trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is launched with the aim of increasing the mobility of trainees and young specialists between EUGA-accredited centres and to learn more about urogynaecology ‘on the ground’.
The EUGA Trainee Committee is excited about this project and hopes to encourage European trainees to participate!
EUGA will award two trainees per year with a grant of 2.500 euros each for a stay of three to six months in a EUGA accredited or EBCOG accredited centre abroad. The internship must be completed in the same year in which it is awarded. Specific guidelines and/or deadlines will be made available on the EUGA website.
Requirements
Interested candidates should be current trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology or have completed their training in the last two years in an EBCOG member country (see www.ebcog.eu/council for a list of member countries).
The aim of the internship is to expose trainees to urogynaecology and its new medical and surgical treatment modalities.
The internship must take place in an EUGA accredited or EBCOG accredited obstetrics and gynaecology training centre. A list of accredited centres can be found on the EUGA and EBCOG websites. The internship should be completed in the same year as the award. The awardee will present the experience at the next EUGA Congress after the internship has been completed.
Obligations
EUGA shall assist any applicant in obtaining an internship in the accredited center of their choice but cannot guarantee the availability of a hosting center for the internship programme.
The host centre will provide the trainee with a tutor throughout the internship, as well as a list of departmental and national requirements for organising the internship. The learning objectives of the trainee should be decided on an individual basis and defined at the beginning of the internship.
Before application the following arrangements must be made:
Candidates are expected to personally contact the hospital where they wish to complete the internship to ensure the feasibility of the internship PRIOR to applying for the EUGA Junior Internship.
The Head of the Department from the hospital that the trainee will be leaving to complete their internship has to endorse the arrangement.
The Head of the Department of the hospital the trainee wishes to complete their internship has to endorse the arrangement.
After completing the internship, the Junior Intern is expected to send a final report to EUGA Trainee Committee and EUGA Executive Board summarizing his or her activities and financial expenditures (mandatory). They are also requested to share their experiences on the EUGA websites within two months after the completion of the internship.Application Process
Applicants are requested to send the following documents before the application deadline announced each year:
- Application form;
- Curriculum vitae (maximum three pages);
- Motivation letter for the internship (maximum two pages);
- Letter of endorsement written by the Head of the Department from the hospital that the trainee will be leaving to complete their internship;
- Letter of endorsement (or letter of intention) written by the Head of the Department of the hospital the trainee wishes to complete their internship.
The candidacy with a research protocol proposal during the Internship will be highly evaluated. EUGA encourages candidates to prepare a research proposal and submit it with the required documents. Important note: Candidates are expected to personally contact the hospital to ensure the feasibility of the internship PRIOR to applying for the EUGA Junior Internship program.
Additional Information
The candidate is personally responsible for planning the internship, including travel arrangements and accommodation.
Additional expenses beyond the 2.500 euros grant will not be covered by EUGA
Some, but not all, hospitals may be able to negotiate a salary. Please enquire prior to application. Check-in with the own Department/Country whether the internship will be recognized (i.e., whether the three months spent abroad will be included as part of the official national training).
Enquire about possible language barriers (English may not be enough) and enquire about the national requirements to be more than an observer. Recognition of a medical degree/title may be required (e.g. GMC recognition is essential for working in the UK). Please appreciate that these administrative procedures may take a great deal of time to complete.
Confirm the need for liability insurance, and whether the hosting hospital will cover the trainee. Check occupational health requirements such as MRSA swabs, hepatitis, and BCG vaccinations.
Submission
Applications for the EUGA Junior Internship Program are opened! Application deadline will be on December 31st, 2025.
Thank you for your interest in applying.

Call for Expression of Interest – EUGA Certification of Competence in Urogynecology
Dear Colleagues,
The European Urogynecological Association (EUGA) is pleased to invite medical residents to express their interest in undergoing assessment for the EUGA Certification of Competence in Urogynecology.
In an era where urogynecology is increasingly recognized as a distinct and essential subspecialty, the EUGA Certification offers an important opportunity to formally validate your knowledge and clinical skills at a European level. Given that urogynecology is not yet uniformly acknowledged as an independent subspecialty across all countries, this certification represents a valuable professional distinction and may serve as a significant asset in advancing your career.
All fellows currently training at EUGA-accredited centres are eligible to apply for certification assessment.
We strongly encourage those committed to excellence in urogynecology to take advantage of this opportunity for professional development and international recognition.
For further details regarding eligibility criteria, the evaluation process, and upcoming application deadlines, please refer to EUGA Office (info@eugaoffice.org).
We remain at your disposal for any additional information and look forward to your participation in this important initiative.
